The GPEI’s 2026 Action Plan presents a smarter, leaner blueprint to sustain momentum toward a polio-free world next year, even as the program faces a 30% budget cut. The plan focuses resources where they will have the greatest impact, especially in the highest-risk areas of Afghanistan, Pakistan, and outbreak zones in Africa and the Middle East. It sets out how the program will center integration with immunization and health partners, strengthen national capacities, and enforce more rigorous accountability at every level.
The GPEI is making deliberate, sometimes challenging choices to protect progress, minimize risk, and keep moving toward a polio-free world. Now, more than ever, we need strong political and financial support to finish the job. Without it, decades of progress could be lost, and polio could return everywhere.
